Description of Error:
When attempting to add a tax through the QuickBooks Connection Wizard, an error similar to this one appears:
A record with the name 'FL' already exists in QuickBooks so the tax group cannot be added to QuickBooks. The item may already exist in QuickBooks as a SALES TAX ITEM. Please rename the item in QuickBooks and try this operation again.
Cause of Error:
Tax codes setup in ESC are sent to QuickBooks as Sales Tax Groups. The six line items you can enter as part of a sales tax code in ESC are sent to QuickBooks as Sales Tax Items. This error will occur if you have a tax code in ESC that has the exact same name as a Sales Tax Item in QuickBooks.
Resolution:
Rename the Sales Tax Item in QuickBooks by performing the following steps:
•Note the tax code in the error then close the error window.
•In QuickBooks, go to Lists → Item List.
•Scroll down until you see your sales tax items.
•Find the one listed in the error and right click it. Then choose Edit Item.
•Add the number 1 to the end of the description and click OK.
•Click back to the wizard in ESC and then click Add Selected Tax Code to QuickBooks.
