Description of Error:
When attempting to send an email or page the following message is displayed:
Error Sending: The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server
Cause of Error:
This error can occur when the SMTP provider is unavailable or blocking requests on the port being used. It can also occur if antivirus or firewall software is installed that scans outgoing messages and activity.
Resolution:
Suspend any antivirus programs or firewalls that may be installed on your local machine and try sending the message again. If the message sends successfully, then changes will need to be made to your antivirus program or firewall to allow communication with your SMTP email server.
If the message continues to occur, check your SMTP settings (Company → System Setup → Email) to ensure that the settings are correct for your provider. If the provider is a public provider, their settings can be found online (or they may be available in this article) or by contacting the provider directly. It's also a good idea to contact your provider to ensure that there are no known issues occurring on their end that may be disrupting service on your end.
