Welcome to the QuickBooks Connection Wizard!
We recommend running the wizard for the first time on the machine where QuickBooks and the ESC Accounting Server are installed. The QuickBooks Connection Wizard can be found by going to your File menu in ESC.
Connect to QuickBooks
The first screen that appears will ask for the version of QuickBooks you are running. Select the option that your current version of QuickBooks falls into, then click Next.
The next screen will ask how you would like to connect to QuickBooks:
- Connect directly to QuickBooks: If you will be using ESC on only one computer, then you may wish to use the 'Direct Connect' method. With this option selected, QuickBooks will need to be opened before the user signs into ESC on the same machine. QuickBooks will then need to remain open on the same machine while ESC is in use. This is so that the two programs can communicate directly with each other. This method is not recommended if ESC will be used on multiple machines. The ESC Accounting Server will not be used if this method is chosen and can be uninstalled.
- Connect through the Accounting Server: If ESC will be in use on multiple machines in your office, this is the method you will choose. The ESC Accounting Server will remain connected with QuickBooks and act as a bridge to QuickBooks from every ESC workstation. This eliminates the need to have QuickBooks installed on your workstations and assures that all users are connected to the same QuickBooks database with the same settings.
Click Next and a field will appear asking for the Server Name or IP address of the computer the ESC Accounting Server resides on. If you're not sure what to enter in this field you can turn to the ESC Accounting Server, which will provide you with both the Server Name and the IP Address. It is recommended that you use the Server Name to connect. Enter this information into the field provided in the Connection Wizard.
Now press the Next button again. You should receive this message: "The Connection to QuickBooks was Successful!" Simply click Next again.
