Description of Error:
When posting invoices to QuickBooks the following error appears:
Could not post invoice 'XXXXXXXXX'
There is an invalid reference to QuickBooks Item "GST On Purchase 5.0%" in the Invoice line. QuickBooks error message: Unknown Error.
Cause of Error:
When going through the QuickBooks Connection Wizard, ESC imports all the tax groups from QuickBooks. In the Canadian version of QuickBooks 2008 (and possibly earlier versions as well), these tax codes can contain purchasing information as well as sales information. This error is caused when a code that contains purchasing information is used on the invoice.
Resolution:
Change the tax code on the invoice to a tax code that only contains sales information. To quickly determine what these codes are, do the following in QuickBooks:
- Go to Lists → Sales Tax Code List.
- Double click any existing code that has a checkmark in the taxable field to edit it.
- In the Tax Item for Sales field, click the drop-down control and look for sales tax groups. These groups will be made up exclusively of Tax Items that are used exclusively for invoicing. Use one of these groups on the invoice in ESC instead.
- Click Cancel so you don't change the Tax Code.
